Interviewing a Small Business Owner: JC Mechanics

This project was a case study of the owner of a small business. It measures the impact of leadership style, communication, and workplace culture as related to day-to-day operations. Through this study, I gained much better insight into how managers motivate their employees, help resolve interpersonal conflict, and build the positive work environment in which employees thrive. I developed my own interpersonal skills, improved my active listening skills, and enhanced my ability to evaluate the leadership qualities of managers while in a "real-world" job setting. Through this project, I learned how an individual’s manner of communicating, along with the level of emotional intelligence the person has, greatly influence the team’s performance—I have found this knowledge to be extremely applicable to all aspects of project management, as well as my future leadership roles. This project demonstrated my evolution in terms of understanding the psychology of how people behave, the principles of leadership theory, and the significant impact of a healthy organizational culture on the overall success of people at work.
